Clear Lam's PrimaPak package recognized with AmeriStar award

During the recently concluded EastPack, the Institute of Packaging Professionals honored the 2014 AmeriStar winners. One of the winners was a package PlasticsToday has covered since its launch, the PrimaPak package from Clear Lam Packaging.

"It's not a stand-up pouch or a rigid container; it's something in between," Roman Forowycz, chief marketing officer for Clear Lam, told PlasticsToday at last year's Pack Expo.

Developed by Clear Lam in an effort to replace rigid jars, blowmolded containers, injection molded packages, composite cans and stand-up pouches, the PrimaPak package is the industry's first-ever flexible, stackable and reclosable packaging produced on a vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machine.

"We believe this packaging solution is a game-changer for the industry. Not only does it address current environmental concerns, it delivers significant cost savings to processors and manufacturers," said James Sanfilippo, president and CEO of Clear Lam Packaging. "This recognition by a panel of our peers validates the advances made in our manufacturing practices and the hard work our entire Clear Lam team has undertaken to make our PrimaPak package commercially successful."

The AmeriStar Award recognizes packaging innovation across a range of consumer packaged goods, pharmaceutical and industrial categories. Entries were evaluated by a panel of judges based on innovation, product protection, economics, package performance, marketing and environmental impact.

Recognized in the shelf stable food category, the PrimaPak package is produced from lightweight laminated rollstock incorporating the Prima ExoShell and Clear Lam's Peel and ReSeal Lidding system. Combining all components of the finished rollstock into one roll of film eliminates the need for pre-formed bases, lids, labels and shrink bands. The finished package resembles a pop-up box and is stackable, with reportedly improving package cube by 30 percent or more.
