Inland Label's MAXX Scoop IML label family beat out 231 entries from packaging suppliers and graphic design firms throughout North America to win the GOLD PAC Leadership Award at the Packaging Association of Canada's (PAC) biannual Awards Gala held in Mississauga, ON.
The La Crosse, WI company worked with Nestle brand Purina on its PetCare IML label family series, reducing the amount of plastic in each container by 15% while maintaining the same volume of cat litter. Purina also collaborated with Gateway Plastics on the award-winning redesign of its MAXX Scoop packaging, while pigeon* branding + design was the graphic designer, and Southern Graphic systems providing pre-press support. The awards were held immediately prior to PACKEX Toronto, for which PAC organizes a conference.
Purina said it chose Inland IML because it offered a 100% recyclable option. In addition, Inland's use of water-based inks further augmented the packages green bona fides. A slimmer pail design also enables Purina to increase the number of pails on each ½ pallet display along with an additional unit of depth on the shelf, which is a key merchandising advantage, said Inland's marketing manager, Jackie Kuehlmann.
Privately owned Inland Label produces more than 23 billion labels annually for customers worldwide, including cut and stack, injection in-mold, pressure sensitive, blowmold, and roll-fed shrink labels.
