Polymerupdate European resin pricing, July 6-10: PP, PE, PS, and ABS up, PVC flat

Polypropylene (PP) contract prices in Europe were higher last week, according to Polymerupdate, with producers pushing for higher rates in light of firmer propylene feedstock. Propylene rates were up €85/tonne, prompting PP producers to seek hikes of €100/tonne and higher for July. Homopolymer injection molding contract prices were assessed at €910/tonne FD Northwest Europe, with PP copolymer prices hitting €950/tonne FD Northwest Europe. In the spot market, PP homopolymer prices were assessed at €855/tonne FD Northwest Europe, with PP copolymer at €905/tonne FD.

Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) contract prices strengthened in Europe last week on firm ethylene, tight availability, and healthy demand. General-purpose LDPE contract prices rose to €1020/tonne FD Northwest Europe. In the spot market, prices were flat at €940/tonne FD Northwest Europe, with some offers at €960/tonne to €970/tonne FD. Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) contract prices firmed to €1010/tonne FD Northwest Europe and FD Italy. Tight regional avails and strength in upstream ethylene supported firmer LLDPE rates. Contract LLDPE prices also climbed despite softer crude values, due in part to improved regional buying interest.

Polystyrene (PS) prices firmed in Europe last week, with contract and spot prices rising. General-purpose PS contracts rose to €1095/tonne FD Northwest Europe, with high-impact PS contracts hitting €1145/tonne FD Northwest Europe. In the spot market, GPPS prices rose to €950/tonne FD Northwest Europe, with HIPS rising in Asia and the U.S. For the month of July, Ineos Nova announced an increase of €110/tonne FD Northwest Europe mark in a bid to combat increased upstream product costs.

Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) galloped higher on rising July feedstock rates, with FD Northwest Europe contracts for general-purpose and natural-grade ABS reaching €1300/tonne. In the spot market, ABS prices rose to €1120 to €1125/tonne FD Northwest Europe. ABS producers in Europe are targeting hikes of €100 to €150/tonne in their July contracts.

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) contract prices were flat in Europe last week, with suspension-grade contract prices for Germany at €800/tonne FD and contract prices for Italy at €805/tonne FD. PVC prices firmed in the spot market, with suspension grades at €700 to €750/tonne FD Northwest Europe. Ineos announced an increase of €130/tonne in its July PVC. while Arkema announced a hike of €120/tonne. PVC availability in Europe remained tight, with volume restrictions at producers like Ineos Vinyls, Vinnolite, Vestolit, and Ercros.[email protected]
