As wearable devices become an increasingly integral part of our lives, more attention is being paid to the materials that come into contact with skin. At NPE2015, Teknor Apex featured its Monprene family of thermoplastic elastomers, which exhibit resistance to skin oil, stains, household chemicals, and ultraviolet rays and are free of latex, phthalates, BPA, and heavy metals. Grades for over-molding adhere to polycarbonate, ABS and PC/ABS.

Specifically, the company's Monprene OM-13255 and OM-13265 compounds, available in 55 and 65 Shore A, provide a silky smooth feel with low surface friction for wristband and related applications. Their light natural color allows for colorability, and the compounds resist abrasion, skin oil, water and weathering.
