CoorsTek Medical acquires Italian medical device manufacturer

CoorsTek Medical (Fort Worth, TX), the CoorsTek-affiliated company that was launched earlier this month, is wasting no time in reinforcing its global footprint. The company announced this week that it has acquired Italian medical device manufacturer Nanosurfaces Industries Srl (NSI), based in Bologna.

NSI was the manufacturing division of SAMO SpA, one of Europe's longest-standing orthopedic OEMs. As part of the agreement, CoorsTek Medical will add the newly restructured SAMO and SAMO Italia to the extensive roster of medical device OEMs for which it provides manufacturing services. After a brief transition period, the Nanosurfaces Industries name will be retired and the Bologna operations will fully adopt the CoorsTek Medical brand.

The new CoorsTek Medical entity establishes a strong European presence for the company with a 25,000-sq-ft manufacturing facility in Bologna. The facility brings CoorsTek Medical a complete manufacturing operation for orthopedic and dental implants and related instruments. Additional synergies with CoorsTek Medical will include the expansion of CoorsTek Medical's manufacturing competencies through Bologna's surface modification technology capabilities such as types I and II anodization.

"CoorsTek is a widely known and well respected brand in Europe, providing strong support for CoorsTek Medical's expansion in the European medical device sector," said Jonathan Coors, CEO of CoorsTek Medical, in a news release. "CoorsTek Medical's acquisition of NSI gives us direct access to a large and growing European medical device marketplace in addition to increasing CoorsTek Medical's manufacturing capacity, expertise, and capabilities. They are a great fit for CoorsTek and CoorsTek Medical."
