Plastindia Foundation instituted the 'Plasticon Awards' to facilitate excellence and innovation in the field of plastics. The Plasticon Awards is the most prestigious award competition for India's plastics industry, practicing professionals and students. The awards are sponsored by industry stalwarts and cover a wide range of activity including industry, academic, research, entrepreneurship, etc. The winners for each category are selected by an independent panel of jurists, who again, are achievers and pioneers in their respective fields.
Diego Donoso, business president for Dow's Packaging and Specialty Plastics business, also gave a keynote address at the concurrent PlastIndia International Conference 2015, highlighting Dow's commitment to sustainability as well as driving growth of plastic packaging for India, He noted that it is critical to drive end-of-life options for plastics with infrastructure improvements, new packaging science, and influencing consumer behavior. Dow, a member of the World Plastics Council, supports the concept of a circular economy for plastics and is a leading voice for initiatives that will take plastic waste out of the landfill and recycle for energy or other strategic purpose.
The flexible packaging market in India has grown in recent years to become Asia's third largest which was valued at $7.2 billion in 2013. The rising affluence and changing lifestyles of India's middle class will continue to drive a stronger demand for packaging and plastics solutions that provide increased convenience and functionality.
India is an important geography to Dow Packaging and Specialty Plastics as the business continues to develop differentiated and game-changing innovations that meet the evolving needs of Dow's customers as well as support customer growth with the company's Sadara joint venture project that will bring new capacity of high performing Dow products to the Asia Pacific region later this year.
In addition to this recent recognition, PacXpert packaging technology has previously received three awards: The ABRE Gold Award from the Brazilian Packaging Association in 2013, The WorldStar Packaging Award from the World Packaging Organization in 2013-2014 and the Sustainable Package Technology Award in China.
