MedPlast Group will host a technical seminar “Thermoset Elastomers: Molding medical devices” on May 5-6, 2010 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, at the Lake Geneva Inn. The seminar will address materials selection and testing, as well as the processing and molding of elastomers. Elastomer processing is often characterized as more difficult to understand than traditional plastic injection molding, primarily because it requires development of custom elastomer formulations, said MedPlast.

Elastomers and medical: Things you should know

To help medical device and healthcare manufacturers understand this material, Bernie Stritzke, author of "Custom Molding of Thermoset Elastomers: A Comprehensive Approach to Materials, Mold Design, and Processing,” published July 2009, will provide important information that medical-product manufacturers need to know.

Additionally, Fred Sadr, technical director, MedPlast Elkhorn, with over 40 years in product and process development activities relating to elastomeric materials engineering, tooling and manufacturing engineering, will integrate his materials insights with applications.

Prakash Pawar, senior engineer, Momentive Performance Materials (formerly GE Silicones), will help attendees develop a better understanding of silicone elastomeric materials and how they can be processed and molded for medical applications.

The seminar is designed to help healthcare professionals stay current with the latest developments in materials processing, develop a better understanding of elastomeric materials, and explore molding options for medical applications.  Attendees will also have an opportunity to see applications in a real-world environment at MedPlast’s Elkhorn facility. The seminar is free to attend, but seating is limited.

For more information or to register to attend the seminar, visit the MedPlast website, or call Barbara Glenn at 480-553-6464. —[email protected]
