Styrolution America will showcase a line of polystyrene products containing post-consumer recycled (PCR) polystyrene at booth (#13005).
The product line from Styrolution includes three product grades, each with 25% PCR content, which is supplied by NextLife - a collaborative manufacturer of sustainable plastic resins for use in a variety of applications.
These grades are FDA-compliant for food contact and designed for injection molding and extrusion applications requiring consistent resin properties, the company said. The resins, which process the same as 100% virgin polystyrene, target injection molded opaque applications, such as cutlery, housewares, office accessories, and appliance components.
The three products in the Styrolution PCR polystyrene line include:
PCR3125 - for use in injection molding applications, the product is based on a 3100 general purpose polystyrene (GPPS) grade with 25% recycled content.
PCR5625 - also used in injection molding applications, PCR5625 is based on a 5600 polystyrene (HIPS) grade with 25% recycled content.
PCR6225 - for use in extrusion applications, the product is based on a 6200 HIPS grade with 25% recycled content.
"This product line proves that polystyrene is absolutely a recyclable product," stated Ed Barnes, vp of Styrolution, in the news release. "We look forward to demonstrating the value of this sustainable line of products with our customers at NPE2012, and also look forward to working within our industry to increase the reclamation and reuse of polystyrene materials into eco-friendly end products."
