ENSO Plastics introduces two new biopolymers to address plastic pollution issues

ENSO Renew is what ENSO Plastics calls “a unique Renewable Thermo Polymer (RTP) derived from the waste process of agriculture, with a carbon footprint 75% lower than polyethylene.” As a high-heat renewable biopolymer, ENSO Renew can be used in products that can be composted in both home and industrial composting facilities, as well as in marine degradable products.

ENSO Renew is designed to meet the needs of applications needed renewable solutions to further sustainability goals using fast-growing plant based material. Blending ENSO Renew with traditional plastics results in a material that has the durability of traditional thermoplastics with a bio-based content, making it “a partially renewable solution that is also durable.”

ENSO Restore is the latest development of biodegradable additives offering improvements to biodegradable performance, and processability and compatibility while eliminating the historically higher scrap rates of competing biodegradable additives, creating both an environmental and cost advantage. ENSO Restore is a technology that accelerates the natural biodegradation without any disruption to disposal methods or performance.

ENSO Restore biodegradable additives work with light-weighted packaging and thin film applications as well as all major resin types: PE, PP, PET, PS, rubber, Nitrile, PU and more.

ENSO was one of the companies involved in the California “biodegradable versus compostable” debate which was settled a few months ago (http://www.plasticstoday.com/blogs/plastics-semantics-and-words-we-can%E2%80%99t-use-california). In an interview with PlasticsToday, Clark stated that his goal for ENSO is to develop a variety of solutions that packaging companies can implement based on the goal for the products. “What are your end-of-life goals?  What do you need the packaging to do?” he said.

“We want to move forward with our goal of being a complete environmental solutions technology provider based on the application and the end-of-life goals for the products. Today we have solutions for compostable, home compostable, marine biodegradable and more. The discussion is not just a compostable versus biodegradable debate.”

Clark added that “While other companies are simply pursuing the best way to see first-generation products and solutions, ENSO is driving innovations by actively creating new solutions for our future generations and effectively dealing with plastic waste.”
