Macro installs a nine-layer system overseas

Canada-based global supplier of film and sheet extrusion systems Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. has recently installed a state-of-the-art 9-layer system in Europe. The 1.8m wide line utilizes nine extruders and with Macro proprietary nine-layer die design to create several barrier structures for the packaging industry to produce film and bags. The line is also suited to run 18-layer structures.

The winding system can tackle film thicknesses ranging from 20um to 300um. The high performance surface winder has zero fold-back roll starts and can auto-cut and transfer in both directions, and has automatic shaft and roll handling, as well as automatic shaft extraction.

The design behind the system was meant to further minimize waste and amp up energy efficiency. The control system has the Macro proprietary “ReadyRun” feature in which the operator can restore frequently used formulas at the push of a button. This helps to limit changeover time, and improves the consistency of the products.

The line also comes with the “Green Energy” choice in which the energy consumption is enhanced throughout the heat and cool process; the customer is able to view energy consumption in real-time. This feature helps the operator to know which formulas are the most efficient to produce.
