There has been a sudden burst of activity in the plastic pipe and tubing extrusion sector the last few days: Pexco LLC expanded its tubing, rod, and profile business with the acquisition of K. Jabat, while Canadian water-management company Soleno opened its first US factory, where it will produce high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes.

Pexco adds custom extrusion capacity

The acquisition of K. Jabat Inc. expands Pexco’s custom extrusion capacity and materials expertise, while addressing new markets and applications, said the Atlanta-based plastics processor.

Based in Green Brook, NJ, K. Jabat produces a variety of custom plastic extrusions including ABS tubing, HDPE profiles, polystyrene cores, and custom tubes and profiles in various engineering polymers.

Pexco said the acquisition also builds on its presence in the utilities, agriculture, infrastructure, fence, and sanitation markets.

Canada’s Soleno eyes aging water-management infrastructure

Water-management company Soleno, which has its headquarters in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, announced on Sept. 26 the opening of its first US factory, in Saratoga Springs, NY. The company said this milestone confirms its determination to address the aging water-management infrastructure in North America with sustainable alternatives.

The Saratoga Springs facility initially will focus on manufacturing the Kustomflo line of high- performance pipes for the Canadian and US markets. It also will serve as a seven-day-per-week distribution center to meet the growing needs of its customer base, especially in the United States, said Soleno, adding that the first orders have already shipped.

Following recent expansions in Ontario and New Brunswick, Soleno has invested more than $22 million in the 45,000-square-foot facility, which began operations in August. A second phase adding 25,000 square feet is currently under review.

German technology

Soleno is the first supplier in Canada to offer the Kustomflo product line, developed using German Krah Pipes technology. Made primarily from HDPE, the pipes are available in the largest diameters on the market and feature exceptional durability, lasting for more than 100 years, according to Soleno. Additional benefits include custom design options and a low environmental impact compared with traditional materials, such as concrete.
