A combination feeder/loader allows precise metering of colorants and additives. The MGF feeders reportedly cost no more than comparable volumetric feeders, in spite of the added advanced loading system. Throughput capacities range up to 35 lb/hr (16 kg/hr), with direct mounting to extruder or molding machine feedthroats possible. The system transports material to the feeder from a Gaylord or drum, filling the container once, instead of continuously or intermittently, responding to a signal from the feeder controller alerting the system that color or additive levels have fallen to precisely 10% of feeder hopper capacity.
MGF’s manufacturer adds that the system differs from the gravimetric feeders it aims to replace in several ways, including lower cost (reportedly one-third or more lower); greater loading accuracy via two load cells; microprocessor control for automatic adjustments to adhere to parameters; vibration management; and a patent-pending torque-limiting drive coupling designed to protect the motor if the auger jams.
