Film extrusion: Films extruder touts no carbon emissions

Biofilms project director Stephan Wilkens at Alesco holds a roll of his film as well as a certificate guaranteeing no carbon emissions were generated during its extrusion.

Plastic films extruder Alesco (the former Schoeller-Aldo, Langerwehe, Germany; www.alesco.net) says it will now power its plant for extrusion of compostable plastic films using only energy generated by hydroelectric power plants, making this part of its sustainability program as well as a way for its customers to market their own sustainability. For the year in progress the firm already has acquired all of the water-generated power it will need from energy supplier RWE, which guarantees the power is generated without generation of carbon emissions. It will acquire the power for 2009 once customer demand/interest justifies doing so, reports Alesco.—[email protected]
