Fortis acquires compounder

Compounder Global Thermoplastics L.P. (Houston, TX) has been acquired by private equity fund Monomoy Capital Partners L.P. (New York), which will roll it into compounder, injection molder, and profile extruder Fortis Plastics LLC. Global recently built a compounding facility in Houston and currently produces approximately 30 million lb of engineered resin compounds/year. That capacity will now be directed internally to supply Fortis.

Fortis was formed by Monomoy in 2008 and including Global, it has undertaken four acquisitions in eight months, purchasing the custom molding divisions of Leggett & Platt Inc., Atlantis Plastics Inc., and the Ramos, Mexico operations of Moll Industries Inc. It currently has 10 facilities in the U.S. and Mexico that supply injection molded and extruded plastic profile components to the appliance, medical device, furniture, and power tool markets.

Discussing the move, Monomoy VP Mayank Singh says, “We continue to pursue acquisitions in the plastics industry that will strengthen Fortis and help differentiate the business from its competitors.” Based in South Bend, IN, Fortis employs 1200 across facilities in Carlyle, IL; Poplar Bluff, MO; Fort Smith, AR; Henderson, KY; Jackson, TN; Booneville, MS; Houston, TX; Brownsville, TX; and Ramos, Mexico. tony.deligio@cancom.com
