Have you spotted the anachronism in this promotional picture for Downton Abbey? Look closely on the mantelpiece, to the right of Laura Carmichael. Yes, that is a plastic bottle. Unfortunately for someone working on that show, plastic bottles were not in wide use in the UK until the 1960s, reports BBC News, 36 years after the popular series takes place. The image was posted on Instagram but has since been removed to avoid further embarrassment. Aah, the ubiquity of plastics, transcending time and space.
