Further Lanxess  investment in Brazil

Lanxess (Leverkusen, Germany) is further strengthening its commitment to serving the Brazilian auto sector with the announcement of an investment in production facilities for polyamide and polybutylene terephthalate at its Porto Feliz site in the State of São Paulo.

Lanxess CEO Axel C. Heitmann announced auto-related investments for Brazil at the company's inaugural Automotive Day in São Paulo, Brazil.

The new plant, which will be run by the Lanxess business unit Semi-Crystalline Products, will have an initial capacity of 20,000 tonne/ year. It will come on stream in the middle of 2013. The materials are used primarily by the automotive industry to make cars lighter and more fuel efficient.

Earlier, Lanxess had announced plans for production of bio-based EPDM in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul. Brazil's Braskem S.A. (São Paulo) will supply the ethylene, derived from sugarcane, by pipeline as of November 2011. -[email protected]
