Gas-assist nozzle prevents contamination

A new automatic shutoff nozzle for use in gas-assist molding is designed to prevent high-pressure nitrogen gas from entering the barrel of the molding machine and contaminating the next shot. At the completion of resin injection, intensified nitrogen gas is injected into the cavity. The pressure is used to activate and stop gas from entering the barrel. This design has only one moving part and is virtually maintenance free. There are no piston rings or seals to replace and the nozzle weighs less than 3 lb, reportedly simplifying installation. The nozzle costs $3500.
