Custom compounder Rissland Kunststoffe GmbH (Katzhütte, Germany) credits its recent installation of a rotary screenchanger/filtration system, the RSFgenius 175, manufactured by Gneuss (Bad Oeynhausen, Germany) for some major cost savings realized as the firm accelerates its reprocessing of heavily contaminated polypropylene (PP).

According to Rissland officials, they were able to drastically increase the throughput rate of their extruder when reprocessing PP while at the same time increasing the screen pack life from a matter of days to several weeks.

The fully automatic RSFgenius 175 screen changer, with integrated self-cleaning, has been in operation now for roughly nine months on a 95-mm twin-screw extruder, mostly processing PP. “In spite of the fact that we are processing contaminated polymer waste, we have been able to increase our throughput rate by 33% and extend the intervals between screen changes to up to several weeks. This is a clear cost advantage and the investment was recovered quickly,” stated the company’s Director, Corinna Rissland.

According to the manufacturer, the RSFgenius operates absolutely pressure- and process-constant, permitting production without variations and/or strand breaks. The fully automatic self-cleaning rotary screenchanger optimizes filtration performance and requires a bare minimum of an operator’s attention. [email protected]
