High-speed milling machine cuts steel, graphite, and copper

Article-High-speed milling machine cuts steel, graphite, and copper

To improve speed, thermal stability, and rigidity, Makino designed the SNC64G/S with an advanced spindle that allows it to cut steel cores and cavities, graphite, and copper electrodes. The milling machine has a maximum feedrate of 630 in/min and a feed mechanism that adopts linear motion guides for faster machine response.

The CAT 40 taper high-speed spindle has a top speed of 20,000 rpm and is designed to minimize thermal growth and workplace distortion by using spindle core cooling technology. Spindle vibration has been reduced to help extend tool life and improve accuracy. Linear machine accuracies without scales for the machine are ±.00012 inch.

The machine has a maximum table capacity of 550 lb, X, Y, and Z travels of 23.62 by 15.75 by 15.75 inches, large ballscrews and linear motion guides to accommodate more mass, a splash-guard door and ceiling, and a 15-tool automatic tool changer. Pricing information was not available.
