Hybrid Boys

On-the-fly ejection through the use of a double-pump system and a servoelectric screw drive are two features of new, small-tonnage, twin-platen hybrids from Boy Machines. Two models are available. The Boy 55Ae, a 60-tonner, has 14.4 by 13.4 inches between tiebars and ashot capacity of 2.37-5.3 oz. The 100-ton, 5-8.9-oz Boy 90Ae has 17.2 by 14.4 inches between the bars.

Both feature Boy?s patented clamp intensifier, liberal tiebar spacing, Procan CT touch-screen control, and the generous nozzle touch force found in Boy?s all-hydraulics. Both also offer savings in energy and cycle times that servodriven shooters and eject-on-the-fly capabilities provide. The 100-tonner reportedly ran a 24-cavity PET bottle screw cap mold 11% faster in tests than a similarly sized straight hydraulic press.?CK
