Hybrid cuts cycle time and energy costs

Article-Hybrid cuts cycle time and energy costs

The ED Series of hybrid injection machines from Toshiba Machine utilizes servos for injection and mold open/close coupled with hydro-mechanical clamping to realize a machine length of 9.5m for the 850-tonne ED850 versus 11.4m for the equivalent all-electric. Energy savings of 60-70% are quoted versus Toshiba hydraulic machines, while cycle time in the case of an 890g PP product can be reduced from 41.4 seconds to 30.2 seconds and hydraulic oil requirements are reduced from 1350 l to 400 liters. The other two members of the series are the wide platen ED850W and the 1800-tonne ED1800. Toshiba Machine, Tokyo, Japan, www.toshiba-machine.co.jp
