UL flame ratings group plastic materials into categories based on their flammability, with UL 94 specifically covering two types of testing: vertical and horizontal burn. Plastic materials are compounded with certain chemicals to reduce or eliminate their tendency to burn. For polyethylene and similar resins, chemicals such as antimony trioxide and chlorinated paraffin are useful. In this weeks search demonstration, IDES will locate polycarbonate materials with a Flame Rating of V-1 and a Notched Izod Impact greater than 10 ft-lb/in. Click to continue.
