NP_KraussMaffei_3_146_1.gifKrauss-Maffei?s objective in offering the SP 55 add-on injection unit for its entire C Series molding machines is to make it easy for molders to get into multicomponent work.

At the Fakuma show, a vertical SP 55 with a 15-mm screw was added to a KM 80-390 C2+ machine to make slide buttons for a locking mechanism. The slides were molded of PP and the SP 55 added a flexible TPE grip surface. The vertical version of the SP 55 comes in three sizes with shot volumes between 21 and 258 cu cm, and offers the benefit of zero additional floor space.

The horizontal version, which bolts on in an ?L? configuration, has those three sizes plus a fourth with a 456-cu-cm shot. Krauss-Maffei notes that platen spacing and extra-long tiebars, such as those on the Fakuma machine, leave ample space for turntable molds.

The add-on units are connected with the company?s MC4 controls for simple integrated operation. Disconnection and reconnection are designed to be simple and fast to encourage using one SP 55 on several machines as needed. The C Series offers clamp forces from 65 to 5400 tons and includes multicomponent models with as many as seven injection units.
