Custom injection molder and contract manufacturer Plastic Molding Technology (PMT) has invested $1 million in additional capacity to service new demand, adding both vertical and horizontal injection molding presses at its headquarters and factory site in El Paso, TX.
The new equipment includes a 220-ton Arburg Allrounder 1500T/2000-800. The custom machine arrived at PMT last month and represents a significant investment in vertical injection molding technology, said the company. The servo-electric rotary table press is described as a state-of-the-art addition to PMT’s lineup of six vertical machines. PMT now runs 61 injection molding machines in its 60,000-square-foot facility.

“Insert molding is one of PMT’s core competencies. It’s why many of our long-term customers continue to source new insert molding projects with us,” said Charles A. Sholtis, PMT CEO and owner. “The investment in the custom Arburg machine is in keeping with our vision to be at the forefront of injection molding technology.”
Insert molding accounts for a quarter of PMT’s current business, and its experience in this niche market is found across the operation, from engineering to quality and production. “Our team takes pride in being the best insert molders for our customers,” Sholtis added. “We tackle high-volume, complex insert molding with a precision and expertise not found at other custom molders.”
This drive to uphold a competitive edge in insert molding led to the investment in the new machinery with the need to open new capacity in this tonnage range. PMT’s expertise also extends to proprietary automation and packaging systems integrated into molding cells, Sholtis said.
In addition to the new vertical press, PMT installed two new 300-ton Toyo all-electric horizontal presses earlier this year. The company has also invested in new auxiliary equipment, including advanced robotics, conveyor systems and material dryers.
PMT is an IATF 16949– and ISO 9001–certified manufacturer of precision-engineered, injection molded plastic components, producing more than 160 million parts a year.
