E-shots Web-exclusive: PM Mold adds machining center

Custom injection mold manufacturer and molder PM Mold Co. (Schaumburg, IL) invested further in high-speed machining with the purchase of its second Roders CNC high-speed machining center, capable of hard-milling at 42,000 rpm. The company plans to use the newest machine strictly for cutting carbon for electrodes. The first Roders is being used for cutting steel. PM Mold currently has a total of seven high-speed machining centers, the fastest of which has speeds of 60,000 rpm, and also is being used to cut carbon, according to Olav Bradley, co-owner of PM Mold.

The company also has 20 presses up to 1100 tons, including molding capabilities for two-color, insert molding, and rotary shuttle presses. Almost all are equipped with robots. “My theory is that the only way to beat low-price wages is with no-price wages,” says Bradley. PM employs just less than 50, including seven engineers in the tooling division.
