Drop-in hot runner systems with nozzles screwed into the manifold offer tangible advantages for moldmakers, according to Ewikon (Frankenberg, Germany): The systems come completely assembled, facilitating their integration in the mold. Additionally, the mold design is simplified and the system itself is absolutely leakproof. Ewikon will introduce the next generation of its L2X drop-in system during Fakuma 2015 at booth 2203 in hall A2.
Available in either hot tip or valve gate configurations, the drop-in hot-runner system’s nozzles are attached to a manifold via a connecting collar, which enables them to freely rotate during installation and allows for precise alignment of the connection cables with the mold cutouts. The nozzle position is then fixed by tightening the connecting collar, thereby eliminating the possibility of plastic leakage between the manifold and nozzle. Quick and easy nozzle disassembly and reassembly facilitates maintenance.
The nozzles use the same integrated heater design found in all standard Ewikon nozzles. The heater is pressed into a channel that is milled directly into the melt-carrying pressure tube. This design provides stable heating with minimal heat loss, resulting in an even temperature profile along the whole length of the nozzle, making the system suitable for processing a wide range of materials including engineering plastics and reinforced materials.
The L2X system is available in two fully balanced manifold versions with nozzle lengths up to 350 mm and flow channel diameters from 6 to 12 mm. Other dimensions are available upon request.
