A Mecca of plastics processing research, the IKV – Institute for Plastics Processing in Industry and Craft at RWTH Aachen University in Aachen, Germany, will be celebrating several milestones when it hosts the International Colloquium Plastics Technology on March 11 and 12, 2020. Not only will IKV fete 70 years of leading-edge research into plastics technology, but RWTH Aachen University will mark its 150th anniversary and the colloquium itself will celebrate its 30th edition. About 800 people from the global plastics industry are expected to attend.

IKV will begin the festivities a day before the official start of the seminar by holding the International Symposium on Plastics Technology in the VIP section of the Tivoli soccer stadium. The symposium will feature papers from scientists hailing from 14 countries presenting "fundamental research" with the aim of sparking a “lively discussion between scientists and industry,” said event organizers. All of the presentations are in English.
The colloquium, on the other hand, is more focused on application-oriented research. On March 11 in the afternoon, IKV will show what it is doing in this regard by holding an open house, where attendees can tour pilot plants and laboratories and pepper personnel with questions.
Plenary papers on the circular economy, Industry 4.0 and additive manufacturing along with 15 sessions devoted to such topics as reproducible process control for injection molding, advanced fluid modeling, and extrusion mixing and die technology are scheduled during the two days. Simultaneous English translation of the presentations will be available.
The colloquium will be held at the Eurogress convention center in Aachen. For more information and to register to attend, go to the event website.
