In-Mold Decorating Association and SPE Decorating & Assembly Division to meet jointly again

The success of last year’s joint meeting of the In-Mold Decorating Association (IMDA; Skokie, IL) and the SPE Decorating & Assembly Division’s Topical Conference (TopCon) has led the two groups to do it again. It will be held June 18 to 20, 2017, at the Lincolnshire Marriott Resort in Lincolnshire, IL.

Tupperware’s Sparkle Canister took home the prize for best label at the 2016 IMDA Parts Competition.

The 2017 program features papers and workshops focusing on the latest technologies for in-mold labeling (IML) of packaging, in-mold decoration (IMD) of durable products and post-mold decorating and assembly of plastic automotive parts. “We are doubling the number of workshops by adding concurrent TopCon workshops on plastics decorating and assembly topics to the already popular IMDA in-mold labeling and decorating workshops,” said Ron Schultz, President of the IMDA.

The event also includes a Supplier Trade Fair with table-top exhibits that will be open to attendees of both conferences.

In addition, the winners of the 11th Annual IMDA Parts Competition will be honored at an awards dinner on Monday, June 19.

The competition is now open to submissions and will close on April 15, 2017. The 2017 competition will recognize the industry’s best in-mold labeled packaging and in-mold decorated durable products. The winning entries are chosen based on creativity in design, engineering and innovation. The categories include:

  • Best Part Design

  • Best Thin Wall Packaging

  • Best Injection Molded Durable (IMD) Part

  • Best Injection Molded (IML) Package

  • Best Label Design

  • Best Blow Molded Part/Package

  • Best Product Family (common style or brand)

  • Best Thermoformed IML Package

  • Best Thermoformed Durable IMD Part

  • Best IML/IMD Prototype Part/Package

No entries will be accepted after April 15, 2017. Award winners will be featured in various publications including packaging and plastics magazines. For additional information and submission forms, visit www.imdassociation.com.
