Krauss-Maffei Corp. fetes 50th anniversary in United States with open house

Krauss-Maffei Corp. celebrated the big 5-0 in the company of more than 400 guests at its headquarters in Florence, KY, this month. The 50-year anniversary of the U.S. subsidiary of the KraussMaffei Group, which represents the KraussMaffei, KraussMaffei Berstorff and Netstal brands of plastics and rubber processing equipment, came at a propitious time: Following a successful financial year in 2015, the company is projecting further growth in 2016.

The celebration showcased a range of applications with live demonstrations of injection molding, extrusion and reaction process machinery, including a Netstal injection compression molding cell and the new ZE 65 Blue Power twin-screw extruder. The open house also featured 50 tabletop displays highlighting additional technology and service offerings from partners, as well as more than 20 technical paper presentations covering productivity enhancements.

"We are very proud of what we have achieved and of our success since the company was founded in New York in 1966,” said Paul Caprio, who has been at the helm of Krauss-Maffei Corp. since 2009. “With over 200 employees, we are providing support to our customers in all three technologies—injection molding, reaction process and extrusion technology.”

Automotive has been a significant growth driver for Krauss-Maffei, as well as the decision of many U.S. companies not to off-shore production to low-wage countries, according to Caprio. "We have always supported the strategy that goods for the U.S. market should be produced within U.S. borders,” he said. “In addition, we are supplying our customers with the best system solutions consisting of machine, mold and automation. They are telling us over and over that our production solutions are not only of high quality, but that they are also very efficient," he added. It's a winning strategy, apparently: Approximately 30% of incoming orders are from U.S customers.

Packaging, building and construction and bulk chemicals are also cited as pillars of growth for the company.

Krauss-Maffei Corp. was founded in New York in 1966 and opened an extrusion systems plant in Wichita, KS, in 1977, by which time it accelerated the sale of products on the U.S. market. This included single and twin-screw extruders for machines and systems in pipe and profile extrusion. In the early 1980s, the company began to sell injection molding machines in the United States. "In order to be able to grow, we opened a new complex with offices and a production plant in Florence, KY, in 1986,” said Caprio. “We combined our entire corporate activity involving injection molding, reaction process and extrusion technology in one location and have continued to further develop it to this day," he added.
