Milacron to shutter DME Pennsylvania plant

On Friday, Milacron informed employees at the DME mold base manufacturing facility in Youngwood, PA, that all operations will be moving to DME’s facility in Greenville, MI, later this summer. This move is to align the needs of DME’s continuously expanding customer base with new and improved manufacturing capabilities, Milacron said in a press release.

The reorganization will affect 63 positions, primarily in manufacturing. Milacron’s DME product brand will continue to manufacture mold bases in the United States at the Greenville facility. Milacron said that, where possible, it would offer relocation to Youngwood-based employees for available positions across all Milacron sites, including Greenville.

"Youngwood had, for many decades, been key in DME's mold base manufacturing in North America but with the introduction of new manufacturing technologies and the continued migration of mold manufacture overseas, the facility is no longer able to compete cost effectively,” said Peter Smith, President and General Manager DME, in a prepared statement. "By consolidating to a single U.S. operation we can direct our investment funds to build a new world class site at Greenville. This facility will incorporate the latest manufacturing processes and, together with its location, it will be ideally positioned to service customers throughout North America,” continued Smith.

Milacron assures customers that solid plans are in place to make this transition as seamless as possible.
