Moldmakers get plenty of help from Progressive

Besides hosting a rip-roaring good time at its booth parties at NPE2015, Progressive Components (Wauconda, IL) is also known for all the products it offers through its sister companies to help make the moldmaker's life easier. For example, ToolingDocs, a mold maintenance and training company, is adding its custom-designed mold maintenance benches to its line of products.

"Since we first opened our Maintenance Training Center in Ashland, OH, we've received many inquiries about how to purchase our custom maintenance benches," said Operations Manager Steve Johnson. "We designed the benches based on years of personal experience in the toolroom, and we've preached the advantages of having a well-equipped work area and bench, not the least of which is increased efficiency and cost savings. Now we're making these benches available to anyone who wants to adopt best practices and advance their toolroom."

ToolingDocs' maintenance benches come optimized for mold assembly/disassembly with features such as a convenient working height; a storage shelf; 3-x-12 ft working area with a 5/8-in.-thick Blanchard Ground steel work surface for smooth and easy positioning of mold plates; corner radiuses on legs to reduce knee injuries; and all welded construction.

The bench can be further fitted with a tool storage unit that fits under the bench and is pre-drilled with holes and repositionable aluminum pegs for flexible, organized storage of tools that are used every day.

Other options include a water manifold and flow meter for quick connections for mold water testing at the bench, plus a convenient drain feature that provides cleaner, more efficient drainage; convenient connection of air tools with hooks to hold hoses on each side of the bench; and electrical outlets that can be centrally installed on either side of the bench and routed underneath it to provide easy access yet minimize obstructions.

Roehr Tool Corp. (Hudson, MA), a pioneer in collapsible core technology, announced the expansion of its line of Dove Tail collapsible cores with the addition of new sizes and configurations. The new sub-10-mm series for molding very small, threaded medical devices, electrical connectors and more is now available. "We are now stocking off-the-shelf blanks for sub-10-mm cores ranging between 7 and 10 mm in diameter," said David Helenius, General Manager. "This speeds delivery times by up to four weeks."

Dove Tail cores are now offered in pre-engineered sizes ranging from ½ to 3 in. NPT (BSPT) for use in molding threaded plumbing, irrigation, pool supply, water or other fluid transport products. "Roehr has pre-engineered these cores to speed delivery. They are designed to be installed and actuated in any mold configuration—side action, front half, back half, etc.—to simplify mold design and build, not to mention reduce cycle times," Helenius said.

Roeher is also expanding the overall sizes of pre-engineered DT cores from four to 23 standard sizes. "No one else provides this range of pre-engineered 10- to 60-mm DT cores," said Helenius. "By doing so, we're able to take two weeks off the build cycle. We also developed a chart to help customers determine which cores will work for their projects, resulting in a simpler application review process."
