Japan-based injection molding machine manufacturer Nissei Plastic Industrial Co. Ltd. has completed a $13 million expansion at its North American subsidiary, Nissei North America, in San Antonio, TX. The expanded facility is expected to begin operations in February.

Nissei operates production bases in Japan, China, Thailand, the United States, and Italy. Its US subsidiary was established in November 2016 to provide large injection molding machines to the North American market with reliable delivery times. The U.S. factory officially opened in March 2018.

To meet the growing demand in the region, Nissei has steadily increased the assembly and production of large hybrid injection molding machines at the Texas facility. The company has delivered more than 200 units to North, Central, and South American markets to date. Currently, the US factory manufactures machines with clamping forces ranging from 560 tons to 1,300 tons.

In response to rising demand, particularly from the automotive, housing, and construction material sectors, Nissei has received numerous inquiries for larger injection molding machines. The expansion will allow the Texas facility to produce machines with clamping forces of up to 3,000 tons. The decision to expand was made in March 2023, and the additional floor space will help meet these demands.

Nissei views the expansion as strategically timed to increase its presence in the US market. As the US government focuses on potential new tariffs under the second Trump administration, Nissei is positioning its “Made in USA” machine lineup for stronger market penetration.

The Nissei North America facility includes several key features:

  • Technical Center: The center conducts mold trials, machine demonstrations, and tests (such as mold and material tests) to boost customer satisfaction. It also hosts seminars for customers.

  • Training Classes: Nissei offers a comprehensive training program combining lectures and hands-on experience to develop expertise in injection molding technology.

  • Parts Center: The Parts Center streamlines customer service through an automated inventory management system, ensuring timely parts availability.

This expansion aligns with Nissei's efforts to provide high-quality products and services while meeting the evolving needs of the North American market.

Nissei augmented its global production network through the completion of its US production base in Texas on February 26, 2018, Operation started in March, while an opening ceremony is scheduled to be held in May.

In November 2016, Nissei established a fully-owned subsidiary called Nissei Plastic Machinery America Inc. in San Antonio in order to achieve the company’s goal to produce injection molding machines locally in the US.
