Perlos Corp., Vantaa, Finland, a major supplier of plastics components and assemblies to the telecommunications industry, has acquired Hong Kong-based Ace Mold Co. Ltd. and Ace Plastics Co. Ltd., along with their manufacturing operations in China, for about $45 million. The Ace companies conduct moldmaking and component molding, decorating, and assembly in Shenzhen.
Ace Mold makes around 700 molds/yr. It will commence moldmaking and processing operations at a 11,500-m2 facility in Shanghai this spring, while a second moldmaking and processing plant in Shenzhen (19,000 m2, twice as large as the current facility) is scheduled to start in July.
Ace Plastics, established in 1998, does processing for the global market. Customers include Black & Decker, Kodak, Philips, and Rockwell International.
Perlos says the acquisitions will significantly bolster its position in southern China and enable it to expand into eastern China. Perlos opened its own production plant in Guangzhou two years ago, and it was already buying around 40 molds/yr from Ace.
This number will grow, says Heikki Mairinoja, president and ceo of Perlos. He also expects Perlos’ global operations to use Ace molds. “Ace rounds out Perlos’ current business operations very well both in China and worldwide. We believe Ace has the best technology in China.”
