Profile Plastics LLC, a Chanhassen, MN–based custom injection molder that specializes in in-mold labeling and in-mold decorating solutions, needed a new machine—and fast. Keeping the promise of Engel’s Fast Lane program, barely a week passed from the time Profile approached Engel until it had the machine up and running on the production floor, according to a release from Engel and Profile.
“We were at capacity on our existing 240-ton Engel, and needed additional capacity fast,” said Nat Svela, Sales Engineer at Profile Plastics. “I approached Larry Davis, Senior Account Manager for Engel, at an MD&M show. The new Engel machine [was] on the floor a week later.”

Soon after, Profile also purchased an 85-ton Engel victory machine with integrated viper 12 robot through the Fast Lane program. Again, quick delivery was a must.
Two of Engel’s top injection molding machine lines—the victory tie-barless and all-electric e-mac machine—are available via Fast Lane. The program, which also includes Engel robots, provides immediate delivery of machines equipped with specialized option packages.
Profile Plastics is building a new 32,000-square-foot facility in Jackson, WI, and it plans to transfer production to the new facility slowly, so as not to disrupt on-going business. The new 240- and 85-ton Engel machines have already been moved into the new facility and the company’s target is to be fully operational by the end of February 2018. The move will quadruple the size of the current 8,000-square-foot facility in Chanhassen.
As a specialist in in-mold decorating and in-mold labeling, Profile Plastics supports its customer base with fully automated machine systems equipped with multi-functional robots for part removal, assembly and packaging. The Engel machines with their fully integrated viper robots are a hit with the company’s machine operators, stated the information.
“Our operators like the fully-integrated machine/robot systems from Engel—the fact that they can perform all machine and robot functions from a single controller,” said Svela. “Our customers like the fact that our systems are fully-automated to ensure the highest precision and efficiency in our manufacturing processes.”
Profile Plastics serves the appliance, automotive and medical industries, manufacturing parts such as washer and dryer knobs, automotive center stack lenses, and button pack assemblies and covers for surgical generators. By using in-mold decorating and in-mold labeling, the company can provide customers the ability to combine part appearance aspects and function with a high level of design flexibility. The processes provide virtually endless options for color, texture and graphics, while also allowing for the integration of UV protection as well as chemical, environmental and wear resistance.
