Injection molding company Technimark has announced the opening of the Donald F. Wellington Innovation Center at its Asheboro, NC, headquarters. Named after Technimark founder Donald F. Wellington, who started the company in 1983, the nearly 30,000-square-foot center includes a complete production lab to perform prototype manufacturing of new products along with customer offices and meeting rooms, a board room and other workspaces.

“Devised and built to consolidate Technimark’s design and engineering staff from across the company, the Innovation Center embodies everything we’ve learned from 32 years of developing innovative solutions,” said Kevin Hedspeth, Senior Vice President of Global Technology & Development. “It will ultimately house 50-plus designers, process and automation engineers and materials development experts to serve our clients’ expanding needs.” Hedspeth also noted that Technimark will continue to retain regional designers throughout its 11 locations worldwide.
In addition to a layout designed to encourage cross-collaboration, the center includes full video and web conferencing; an array of cameras in the manufacturing area, so customers remotely can watch their product as it’s made; and 3D-printing capabilities for rapid development of prototype tools and parts.
By combining its design and engineering capabilities with on-site prototyping, customers can envision how they want their packaging to look and function and then follow that process through to completion, said Hedspeth. It allows them to quickly respond to a changing marketplace, he added.
Technimark designs and manufactures high-value injection-molded packaging and components serving the consumer packaging, healthcare and industrial markets,
In December 2015, Technimark acquired Ci Medical Technologies, a top-tier manufacturer of injection-molded components, assemblies and devices used in the medical, pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare markets. Just about one year ago, the company also established a new commercial division, Technimark Healthcare, which focuses exclusively on servicing healthcare and medical customers.
Technimark is a member of Pritzker Group, which owns and operates market-leading companies in the manufactured products, services and healthcare sectors.
