Tongs safely lift molds

NP_Bermer_ac.gifDesigned to help open a mold during mold fabrication, maintenance, or repair, Bermer offers a new line of redesigned mold lift tongs. The tongs use the clamping slots on a standard mold base for gripping, and the tension exerted by the lift arms is proportional to the weight of the mold base, which produces a positive lifting action. The tongs are said to prevent mold damage by eliminating the lateral movement often introduced when prying mold halves with pry bars or screwdrivers. It also reportedly prevents rubbing and galling of guide pins, side actions, and cores and cavities during mold separation and assembly. Using the tongs and an overhead crane, one person reportedly can open a mold, saving time and labor and decreasing injury risk. The tongs are available in three sizes with capacities of 1100 to 4400 lb. Bermer reports an ROI of two to six months, depending on use.
