Venture Plastics has added a 950-ton Nissei FVX 860 hybrid injection molding machine to its El Paso, TX plant in support of the power back-up industry. The Nissei machine, which uses the "X-pump" system with servodrives to cut energy use by up to 45% over a standard hydraulic machine, will be Venture's largest, eclipsing a previously installed 725-ton press.
Southwest Venture Plastics, which covers 48,000 sq ft, was established in El Paso, TX in 2006, joining Venture's 45,000-sq-ft Newton Falls, OH plant. Venture opened the El Paso site to meet product, cost and freight-related needs of major customers. The plant now has 15 injection molding machines total and headcount in 2013 has been increased by 10%, Bryon Osborne, Venture's VP of sales and marketing told PlasticsToday.

This is Venture's first "hybrid" injection molding machine, but perhaps not its last with Osborne noting that electricity is one of Venture's largest costs.
Osborne said the machine will be used in part to manufacture battery jars and PVC lids with lead inserts for its power supply customers.
"The batteries, electronics and fully integrated power systems provide back-up battery power in the event of a primary power loss or interruption," Osborne said. "Our customers meet the needs in the telecommunications, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and utility, switchgear and control, cable, broadband, and solar markets."
Between the Texas and Ohio facilities, Venture Plastics' range of injection molding machines goes from 55 to 950 tons. Markets served by Venture include industrial/consumer, major appliance, truck/agriculture, automotive, fuel delivery, and communications. The company provides engineering and design support and project management, injection and structural foam molding, over-molding, insert molding, gas-assist molding, decorating, plating, assembly, and welding.
The company most recently expanded injection molding capabilities in El Paso in 2011.
