Japanese carbon fiber supplier gains foothold in India

Toho Tenax (Tokyo), the carbon fiber and composites business of Teijin Group (Tokyo), has agreed to collaborate with India's Hindoostan Technical Fabrics to develop and market carbon fiber products for composites in India. Hindoostan Technical Fabrics is a unit of Hindoostan Mills, Ltd. and part of the Thackersey Group.

Under the partnership, Toho Tenax will supply its proprietary Tenax carbon fiber to Hindoostan for weaving and processing into textiles. The two companies will jointly market the products to Indian manufacturers of composite materials and reinforced sheets. Target markets will consist of the automotive industry, aerospace and railway, wind power, sports and leisure, medical equipment, and electronics.

Hindoostan Technical Fabrics currently has capacity for about 40-50 tonnes of carbon and aramid fabrics per year.
