JEC hopes to tap North American composites growth with new U.S. show

Calling the Americas "a key strategic market for the global composites supply chain," Frédérique Mutel, president and CEO of the global composites industry organization, JEC, discussed her organization's 2012 launch of the inaugural JEC Americas Composites Show & Conferences (Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, Nov. 7-9, 2012).

JEC organizes the long-running Europe Composites Show & Conferences (47th edition in 2012), as well as the JEC Asia Composites Show & Conferences, which wrapped up its fifth edition earlier this year. Mutel said the American composites sector represents 36% of worldwide revenues, compared to 33% for the Europe/Middle-East/Africa market, and 31% for the rest of the world, including all of Asia.

The organization stated that composites industry professionals asked it to develop a new composites show and conference program in the Americas where the entire industry value chain could meet and network. JEC stated that every application sector and related services will be represented in Boston in November.

JEC Americas will collocate with Industrial Fabrics Association International (IFAI) Expo Americas 2012, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Both events hope to attract 400 exhibitors and 15,000 visitors. By the end of May, 250 exhibitors had already registered booth space with JEC Americas.

JEC Europe 2012 (March 27-29; Paris) featured 1181 exhibitors covering a show record 50,000 sq m (538,195 sq ft). Attendance in 2012 increased once again, with a total of 32,256 visitors, compared to 29,867 in 2011. JEC Asia 2012 (June 26-28; Singapore) drew 7490 attendees and 345 exhibitors. Global attendance increased more than 7%, due in large part to a larger Chinese contingent (up 12%), as well as more visitors from Singapore and Malaysia (up 11%).

Also at JEC Americas:

  • Education & Skills Village with around 30 universities, composites and advanced materials organizations, academic groups, market associations and scientific centers, such as the National Composites Center
  • Sixth Innovative Composites Summit (I.C.S.), a program of strategic and technical conferences and forums; separate I.C.S. sessions will examine bio-composites, automotive (in partnership with the Society of Plastics Engineers), automation, aerospace, wind energy, carbon, building and construction and more.
  • JEC Innovation Awards program to honor the best new products, processes and applications in the composites industry.
  • Business Meetings Program arranging meetings with pre-selected companies - or the Job Center, where visitors and exhibitors can post job offers and résumés.
