Jet black liquid colorant

A new black liquid colorant for injection molding exhibits greater hiding power, jetness, and stability than previous formulations, according to the manufacturer. The new colorant, 91-88380, incorporates ?very jet? carbon black pigment into the manufacturer?s universal liquid vehicle at 35 percent loadings using proprietary processing techniques. Pigment agglomerates are broken down into individual particles and wet-out in suspension, preventing reagglomeration and increasing the opacity of the original pigment by 50 to 80 percent.

The process is also said to improve antisettling characteristics and minimize viscosity. At 5000 centipoise, the new black is pourable and pumpable and disperses readily for uniform color distribution at recommended letdowns of 100:1 to 1000:1. The colorant is compatible with HIPS, MIPS, ABS, PVC, styrenics, polyolefins, and other thermoplastics and is injected into the feed throat of injection molding machines using a peristaltic metering pump. Base price for the colorant is $2.10/lb in drum quantities. Quantity discounts are available.
