Düsseldorf — Quality control of composite materials and fiber-reinforced plastics is of high importance, especially across the automotive, aerospace, energy and marine industries. Further, manufacturers of nonwovens and plastic film must also complete 100% optical surface inspection in order to ensure production quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Typical defects found within carbon fiber web and glass fiber web used to be fairly complex to detect and analyze. At a K 2013 press conference, ISRA Vision premiered its simple and rapid all-in-one surface inspection system which showcased "sophisticated development in light technology." Using "synergetic innovations," ISRA Vision (10/H20) has created the Plug & Inspect.
Plug & Inspect uses high speed cameras and switchable LED lighting that allow detection and identification of defects from different views and angles within a single camera bank. This high frequency switchable LED illumination has been patented by ISRA Vision. The single-packaged technology reportedly makes complex optical surface inspection easy and comes with all the requisite components including high speed web data processing, marking, alarm and labeling.
The most compelling features of the Plug & Inspect is said to be simplified integration via quick installation, an easy-to-handle human interface and compact construction. The reduction in mechanical features and components is said to result in further increased reliability and minimal maintenance. ISRA Vision says its new simple surface technology supports continuously high product quality, minimum scrap rates and the reduction of expensive customer complaints.
