What is said to be one of the largest injection molds for the manufacture of PET bottle preforms, a 144-cavity tool, was on exhibit at K 2001 in Düsseldorf. From Mold & Hotrunner Technology AG (MHT), the Holi Mold Series preform molds can reportedly increase the productivity of a standard PET injection molding machine by up to 50 percent.
With this new series of molds, MHT is able to meet the growing demand for soft drink bottles (up to .5 liter) and mineral water bottles (up to 1.5 liters). The preforms for these applications weigh up to approximately 30g. Unusually close spacing between cavities allows for up to 50 percent more cavities on the platen than comparable systems provide. As its outer dimensions remain unchanged, the mold can be mounted and removed without any need to retract or dismantle the tiebars. The clamping force and plasticating capacity of a standard-size PET injection molding machine will likewise suffice for the larger number of cavities.
