Although it wasn't out in time to put under your favorite compounder’s Christmas tree, extruder manufacturer Leistritz (Nuremberg, Germany) has promised to introduce in 2009 the ZSE180 MAXX series twin-screw extruder. The outer to inner diameter screw ratio has been increased from 1.5 to 1.66 in this new ZSE MAXX range to provide higher free volume in the screw and at the same time a higher torque resulting from a new gearbox.

Leistritz soon adding even larger twin-screw unit

Away from the compounding extruder field with which it is normally associated, Leistritz has found a new market for its equipment in the production of bioriented polypropylene (BOPP) film. It recently delivered a ZSE135 MAXX extruder to Austrian/French tenter frame producer DMT (Salzburg, Austria) to melt and extrude PP for biaxially stretched films targeting the food packaging sector. “The ZSE135 MAXX has a screw diameter of 140mm and facilitates high torque with at the same time large free volume in the screw,” says Peter Zubak, regional sales manager at this extruder manufacturer. DMT has integrated 16 such extruders from 75-140mm in screw diameter into their lines.
