If you've ever gotten exasperated listening to a white-collared CEO talk about his company, using business-school buzzwords that seem to say very little but take up plenty of space, then there is a good chance you'll find something very satisfying in watching a machine manufacturer's president, in casual dress and with his shirtsleeves rolled up, tossing bulky blobs of plastic purgings into his company's new purging recovery system and cranking it up as he explains the unit to an unseen audience.

Steve Maguire video That's just the approach Steve Maguire (pictured, relaxing with his co-star) took in this video (9:49 minutes), one of a series of seven his company, Maguire Products Inc. (Aston, PA), has made available as streaming video at its website, www.maguire.com. It's an approach not many companies in this industry have yet taken, although the number of plastics processing-related videos at YouTube continues to grow, especially among creative processors such as ThermoFab, which introduced its Thermoforming Superhero in this video.

Among manufacturers, the use of videos on their websites to demonstrate their machinery has been quite slow, which is somewhat of a surprise when one considers a main reason these same manufacturers spend often considerable sums to attend trade shows: to give plastics processors a chance to see the equipment in operation.

Maguire Products' videos are designed to give a plastics processor a view of the company's equipment in operation, without the processor even needing to leave his desk. So far the manufacturer has posted seven online, each providing an English-language explanation and demonstration by a Maguire expert.

The videos currently available include ones of the company's LPD dryer, its MicroPlus blender, gravimetric feeder, and more, including, of course, Steve Maguire's explanation of the company's size-reduction system for routine reclamation of purgings.

No matter whether you are in the market for machinery or not, it may be worth viewing one or two of the videos to get some ideas for enhancements to your own company's website. —[email protected]
