Long-lasting ejector pins and mills

Precision-ground and honed nitrided and TiN-coated ejector pins are now available from Gesswein. The pins are said to feature ultra-tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes for reduced wear. Both types are made of thermal-shock-hardened hotwork H-13 steel to withstand mechanical and thermal stresses. The TiN-coated pins reportedly resist even higher levels of abrasion and adhesive wear. All pin heads are forged and annealed for durability and longevity. The ejector pins have a surface hardness of 68 to 72 Rockwell C and an overall hardness of 40 to 45 Rockwell C.

Gesswein has also announced the availability of sp3 Diabide, diamond-coated carbide end mills and mold mills designed specifically for the high-productivity milling of graphite electrodes. The mold mills feature a relieved shank that provides a typical extended reach of 10 diameters. This relieved shank reportedly allows the cutting edge to remain in full contact with hard-to-reach sidewalls. All of the mills are produced to tight tolerance standards and are said to last up to 50 times longer than carbide end mills. The mills are available in square- and ball-nose styles.
