The project involves production of 490 kilotons/year of polyolefins from three plants, including a methanol and methanol-to-propylene (MTP) plant. These use MegaMethanol and MTP technology from Lurgi to create the propylene that supplies a PP plant based on LyondellBasell’s Spherizone technology.
“Our main goal is to establish a sustainable local and regional supply of polyolefins to the emerging local plastics industry, to South American markets where demand is forecasted to increase at an average annual growth rate of 5.2%, as well as the existing large North American markets,” says Volker Trautz, LyondellBasell Industries’ CEO. At this point, startup is expected by late 2012.—[email protected]
