GPI Prototyping and Manufacturing Services in Lake Bluff, IL, announced the company’s acquisition by Fathom, joining a family of companies that includes Midwest Composite Technologies (Heartland, WI) and ICOMold (Holland, OH). Midwest Composite Technologies acquired both Fathom and ICOMold in 2019.
With the acquisition of GPI, Fathom has doubled its metal additive capacity, creating more-encompassing direct metal laser sintering services for its customers. All four companies will be moving forward under the Fathom brand. The combined company is positioned for growth as the leading privately-held digital manufacturing company in the United States, said Fathom, and now offers expanded manufacturing capabilities to all customers.
Fathom’s comprehensive services include more than 14 manufacturing methods leveraging additive (SLS, FDM, DMLS, MJF, SLA, and Polyjet), subtractive (CNC machining, mold making), and formative processes (injection molding, urethane casting). The company operates more than 100 additive large-platform industrial-grade machines and additive technologies on more than 200,000 square feet of manufacturing space, said GPI.
This acquisition will give GPI’s customers access to a range of additional manufacturing capabilities focused on technical expertise, speed, agility, and complexity, said the company. With corporate branch offices in Oakland, CA, and Seattle, Fathom offers nationwide service to clients in the technology, defense, aerospace, automotive, and IOT sectors.
