Maryland Plastics acquires Galaware portfolio

Galaware was acquired in July 2009 by Proto-Cast LLC (Douglassville, PA), a custom molder and moldmaker serving the electronics, medical, industrial, sporting goods and other markets. Maryland Plastics' general manager, Jack Bucchioni, told PlasticsToday that his company (Federalsburg, MD) has acquired Galaware's brands, intellectual property, trademarks, all tooling and associated parts, its customer lists, inventory and select key personnel. Galaware-brand products include bowls, plates/dishes, trays, utensils, tumblers/cups, boxes and picnic sets.

Bucchioni says business at Maryland Plastics is growing well, with the company's sales on the rise. He sad the company also is gradually expanding into production of products based on bioplastics such as polylactic acid, a shift he describes as getting "ready for the future of plastic consumer goods." —MPW Staff
