Taiwan’s Chimei unveiled its Ecologue range of sustainable post-consumer materials, including mechanically recycled ABS resin and chemically recycled MMA, on the opening day of K 2022 in Düsseldorf, Germany, on Wednesday.

Chimei featured what it said is the world’s first light guide plate made of chemically recycled MMA; the product, developed for display screen applications, is slated for mass production in the third quarter of 2023.

Going forward, Chimei plans to develop Ecologue materials for use in consumer electronics, food packaging, and medical equipment. Ecologue biodegradable materials are also intended to replace single-use plastics, and the company hopes to replace fossil feedstock with biomass feedstock.

"Ecologue is more than just a catalogue of sustainable materials," explained Andrew Hsieh, Chimei’s Sustainable Material Solutions Manager. "Ecologue is where conversation fuels change. Through Ecologue, Chimei will initiate discussions that drive collaboration among colleagues and partners, across the whole value chain, transforming dialogue into practical steps that improve the sustainability of performance materials."

Chimei is rethinking its manufacturing processes, the company said, with innovation in recycling, bioplastics, and production driving Ecologue’s development. The company also aims to advance its carbon capture and utilization to reduce its greenhouse-gas emissions by 40% by 2030.

Visit Chimei’s shared booth with Biesterfeld, B18 in hall 5, until the show’s conclusion on Oct. 26 at Messe Düsseldorf.
