Era PolymersEra Polymers Pty Ltd. (Sydney, Australia) has chosen to locate its newest polyurethane operation in the former DSM plant in Stanley, NC. The 139,678-square-foot facility will house a corporate office, technical service and advanced manufacturing center. The company intends to invest $9.2 million, which includes the purchase of the building, machinery and equipment. Approximately 20 jobs will be created over the investment period, according to the Gaston County Economic Development Commission.

Founded in 1986, Era Polymers specializes in polyurethane chemistry and has six divisions: Elastomers, Foams, Coatings, Machinery, Trading and Toll Manufacturing. It has been at the forefront of developing and manufacturing polyurethane systems to meet the application requirements of its global customer network. The company said it needed its own advanced manufacturing facility in the United States to maintain growing sales in the U.S. market, and will produce products for the Canadian, South American and European markets.

Era Polymers President George Papamanuel noted that he was pleased with the support he has received from Gaston County EDC. “Era Polymers had been conducting business within the USA for more than 15 years,” said Papamanuel. “It became a logical step for us to establish our own presence in the USA with an advanced manufacturing facility, to better supply and technically service our growing customer base. The support from local, county and state authorities made a compelling case to locate our facility in Stanley, NC. This world class facility is the ideal platform to support the next growth stage of our company.”

Era Polymers currently operates three state-of-the-art facilities in Australia: Two in the Sydney suburb of St. Marys, one in the Melbourne suburb of Dandenong South for its Applied Polymers business, and one plant in Auckland, New Zealand. The company has stocking plants in all capital cities of Australia as well as Malaysia, Shanghai, Dubai, Belgium, South Africa, Canada and the United States.
